Veterans

After two tours in Iraq, I consider myself very lucky to have returned physically whole. I know many soldiers in my unit who have not been so lucky. As a member of the VFW, I know that the bond between veterans continues long after we ETS or EAS. I’ve continued to serve my fellow veterans as one of Governor McAuliffe’s appointees to the Virginia War Memorial Board.

If elected, I will advocate for the full funding and staffing of Virginia’s Department of Veteran Services.  The Commonwealth’s Department of Veterans Services (DVS) is chronically understaffed in many areas. The 70% turnover rate, over 5 years, among Service Representatives means that many Virginia veterans have been dealing with the Veterans Administration bureaucracy for longer than their Service Representative. DVS should be a resource veterans can draw on, not just another bureaucracy.
